A disagreement, an argument, or a one-off unkind<br \/>\nremark is usually a conflict, and the school handles it as such. HIB is different: it is behavior<br \/>\nthat is motivated by an actual or perceived characteristic \u2014 such as race, colour, religion,<br \/>\nancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or a mental,<br \/>\nphysical or sensory disability \u2014 and that substantially disrupts the school&#8217;s operation or a<br \/>\nstudent&#8217;s rights.<\/p>\n<p>For a fuller explanation of the difference, see<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/index.php\/conflict-vs-hib\/\">Conflict versus Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Report\"><\/span>How to Report<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Anyone \u2014 a student, a parent, a member of staff or a member of the community \u2014 may report an<br \/>\nincident. Reports may be made verbally to any staff member or in writing using the HIB incident form<br \/>\nfor families. Verbal reports must be acted on the same way as written ones.<\/p>\n<p>Once a report is made, the Anti-Bullying Specialist begins an investigation. The investigation<br \/>\nmust be completed within ten school days of the written report.
