Health Curriculum

Comprehensive Health and Physical Education at Franklin Township School follows the New Jersey
Student Learning Standards. The standards were revised by the New Jersey Department of Education
beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, and our curriculum has been reviewed and approved as
appropriate to the age, maturity, growth and development of students at each grade level.

Family Life and Social/Sexual Health Instruction

Family Life and Social/Sexual Health topics are taught in grades 2, 5, 7 and 8 only. Letters are
not sent to other grade levels, because their health curriculum does not include these standards.

Grades 2 and 5 — instruction in the spring; parent letters distributed in May.
Grades 7 and 8 — instruction in the winter; parent letters distributed in January.

Your Right to Excuse Your Child

Franklin Township School District acknowledges that parents and guardians are the primary
sexuality educators for their children. You may exclude your child from any Family Life,
Social or Sexual Health instruction if it conflicts with conscience, moral or religious beliefs.
Students who are excused are assigned to a separate classroom for the identified lessons and complete
independent work on previously taught health topics such as nutrition, first aid, communication
skills and substance abuse.

PDF on this page.

Draft note for the Steward — delete before publishing: The live page links a Health Curriculum Map hosted off-site and the 2025-2026 health letter. Carry both across. The letter names Mr. Hunter Timko (PE/Health) and Mrs. Ann Teitelbaum (school nurse) as delivering instruction — but the current school nurse listed elsewhere on the site is Dana Roberts, so confirm staffing before republishing that detail. I have left the names out for that reason.
