Fundraising & Class Trips

Students at Franklin Township School take part in class trips every year, and from fifth grade
onwards families take part in grade-level fundraising. This page explains how both work and who to
contact.

Class Field Trips

Students from preschool through eighth grade take a minimum of one field trip a year. The cost of
the trip is met by parents and guardians. If the cost is a hardship, contact the Chief School
Administrator — support is available and the conversation is confidential.

The number of chaperones follows Board of Education policy on adult-to-student ratios. Trips for
preschool through fifth grade sometimes include parent chaperones, who are invited only after
grade-level staff have been assigned. Trips for sixth through eighth grade are historically
chaperoned by staff only.

Grade-Level Fundraising

Families take part in fundraising from fifth through eighth grade. The money raised offsets the
cost of eighth-grade activities — the eighth-grade trip, graduation, and caps and gowns — so that
those costs do not fall on families all at once in the final year. Class parents help organize each
fundraiser, but the responsibility is shared across all students and families in the grade.

Grade 7 — Philly Pretzel
Grade 8 — Discount cards, Maddalena’s cheesecake, and the staff versus student game

School-Wide Fundraising

The PTA runs fundraising for the whole school: the Color Run, the Scholastic Book Fair,
Roary’s Shoppe, fall and spring clothing drives, the Holiday Shop and the Mother’s Day
plant sale. See FTS PTA.

Class Parents

Class parents sign up through the PTA. A class parent is a volunteer who helps the homeroom teacher
organize activities and events through the year.

Draft note for the Steward — delete before publishing: Written from the Fundraising PDF, which is out of date in two places: it directs hardship enquiries to “Dr. Gooditis” (a former principal) and names a PTA officer slate that may have changed. I have replaced the name with the role and left the officers out. Confirm the fundraiser list is still accurate for the coming year.
