Changes Made

Review document. This page records work already completed on the
mockup. It is deliberately parked at the bottom of the Our School menu so the Committee can reach it —
it is not part of the proposed future site and should be removed before anything goes live.

What Changed

Navigation

The site moved from eight top-level items to seven, and from an inconsistent depth to a
predictable three levels. Level 1 is now Our School, Families & Students, Academics, Departments,
Athletics & Activities, Board of Education, and Staff & HR.

• Legal Notices was a duplicate top-level item; it is absorbed into Board of Education › Legal and Contracts.
• Staff Directory was demoted from Level 1 into Our School.
• Human Resources became the Staff & HR section and split into five pages.
• Community content folded into Our School, which freed a slot for Athletics & Activities at Level 1.
• Promoting Athletics also fixed a structural problem: its sports pages previously sat four levels deep. They are now at Level 3, inside the limit.
• The menu now carries 101 items across 7 top-level, 40 second-level and 54 third-level entries, generated from the page tree rather than maintained by hand.

Pages

87 pages were built: 73 new, and 14 existing pages rewritten. Around 23,000 words of
content in total. Roughly half was ported from the current site where the existing content was already
sound — the Special Services section in particular was well maintained and needed almost nothing.
The rest was written from scratch or drawn out of PDFs.

Pages Added Beyond the Restructure Plan

• Families & Students › Supply Lists — the back-to-school supply lists were
  only a shared-drive document linked from the home page, so they were not in the page inventory at all.
  They are now a page in their own right, grade by grade, and one of the ten home page quick links.
• Departments › School Nurse › Head Lice — the plan listed this as a bare
  external link in the navigation. Standard 2.7 requires the originating page to explain where an external
  link goes, so it became a short page instead.

Content Drawn Out of PDFs

Several pages on the current site consist only of attachments. Where the underlying document
contained information that should have been readable on the page, it was written out as HTML and the
PDF kept alongside it for reference. This is the pattern Standard 2.2 asks for: the PDF stays, but it
is no longer the only way to find out what the page is about.

• Gifted & Talented — was a banner image with no text. Now describes the identification model, program goals and Board policy.
• Athletic Offerings — was an embedded PDF. Now lists every school and community sport by season.
• Learning from Home — was two PDFs. The step-by-step instructions are now on the page.
• Health Curriculum, Title 1, Fundraising & Class Trips, Early Childhood Advisory Council — same treatment.

Compliance Fixes Applied Across the Ported Pages

Applied to every page as well: external links marked and set to open in a new tab, and PDF links
labeled as PDFs.

Faults Found in the Current Site

These were discovered while porting. They are faults in the live ftschool.org content and need
fixing there regardless of what happens to this project.

• Two policy documents are unreachable. On the Drug and Alcohol page, the Policy and Regulation links point at file:///C:/Users/…/Desktop/ — a path on someone’s laptop. They have never worked for any visitor.
• Every staff email address is obscured. All 18 render as the literal text [email protected] rather than an address, which fails Standard 2.5. They were decoded and restored as real text in the mockup.
• Two spellings of the counselor’s address are both in use across the site. One of them is wrong.
• Teacher Webpages is dead. It renders “Could not find any faculty or staff.” The same empty output appears on three other pages.
• Baseball and Softball are empty schedule tables — no coach, no fixtures.
• Duplicate documents — the lead water certification and the pest management plan are each listed twice on the same page.
• A permission slip contradicts itself, giving two different dates in the same document, and names a Principal and a Guidance Counselor who have both moved on.

The Home Page

Rebuilt against the Committee’s page review. The changes, by issue number:

News, Events and Gallery share one scroller component, one card pattern and one control position,
which removes the three-different-carousels problem. The arrows stay visible and disable at the ends
rather than vanishing, and the next card is deliberately left half showing so it is obvious there is
more to see. The quick links stay static: hiding those is what made the term an oxymoron.

The banner uses a photograph of the school itself, sized so the section beneath stays just in view
— that peek is the cue that there is more page below. The header carries the crest, a working
search box and a language selector.

One Thing Worth Recording

The district mission statement was reported as missing when the page inventory was built. It is not
missing — it is published on the current home page, and that adopted wording is now on both the home
page and the Mission & Vision page. No new mission text has been written; inventing one is not a
drafting exercise.

What the Standards Guide Now Requires

The full document is Website Standards & Best Practices, Version 1.0. In short, and in the
order stewards will meet them:

• Every page carries real text. An image or an attached PDF is not a substitute for explaining what a page is for (2.1).
• PDFs are for external documents. Anything the district writes itself belongs on the page as text. Where a PDF is used, the page says what it is and who it is for (2.2).
• Abbreviations are spelled out on first use, and never used alone in a navigation label. FTS is the only exception (2.3).
• Content lives in one place. Other pages link to it rather than repeating it (2.4).
• Contact details are text, never inside an image (2.5).
• Dead pages are removed, not left in place (2.6).
• External links open in a new tab, are labeled as external, and the page explains where they go (2.7).
• Seven top-level items, twelve second-level items per section, and third-level navigation only where the structure genuinely needs it (3.1).
• A page has one name — identical in the dropdown, the sidebar and the page title (3.3).
• Title case throughout. No ALL CAPS anywhere (3.4).
• H2 and H3 only in the page body, and no faking a heading with bold text (4.1).
• Every page has a named steward and a review interval (5.1, 5.2).
